A Compassionate Operation of Rescue and Rehabilitation of Camels

One of India’s largest camel rescue operations was conducted by Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, with the gracious support of Shri Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Maharashtra and the local police authorities. Over 160 camels were intercepted in Nashik and Malegaon while being illegally transported. They were found severely dehydrated, malnourished and in dire need of medical attention. Veterinarians swiftly provided comprehensive aid, treatment and compassionate care to these animals.

Under the custody granted by Shri Gangatharan D, Collector of Nashik and Shri Girish Patil, District Deputy Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Nashik the camels were temporarily rehabilitated at Shrimad Rajchandra Jivamaitridham in Dharampur. A team of 20 skilled veterinarians along with specialised camel caretakers (raikas) from Rajasthan supported in diligently nursing the camels back to health. Upon complete recovery, the camels were safely relocated to their natural habitat at the Mahavir Camel Sanctuary in Sirohi, Rajasthan.
